Today’s Motivational Monday post is about dogs learning to go potty at the potty station and not in the neighbor’s yard. Training your dog to potty on command relieves so much stress and embarrassment while taking your dog out on trips. If you train your dog to potty before going into the store, you won’t have to worry about them having an accident while you shop. The same applies when you hang out at a restaurant for a couple of hours.
Milo is learning that when we go on walks, we wait until we get to the potty station or a designated area where I can dispose of his waste respectfully. While out on a walk, we walk until I find a potty station or a garbage can. Once there, I give the commands Sit, Stay, and Free. He knows that this is where he can sniff to his heart’s desire. I also command him to Go Potty. Once he “takes care of business,” I praise him dearly and dispose of any waste. Out of respect for the community, he is taught not to mark on city landmarks or neighbors’ yards. The more I practice this while on neighborhood walks, the more he’ll be ready to go on family trips and potty when commanded, making the trip more enjoyable and peaceful for all.
Level up your dog’s potty training and start practicing now so that your dog will be ready for family trips this summer!
