Juniper takes a moment to control her instincts and leave the geese alone. GiGi was not ready to get dragged and take a swim at Stan State. Way to go, Juniper! You get an A+!
The command Leave It is just as important as Stay and Come. Leave It teaches the dog what they can and cannot have, for their safety and the safety of the pack family.
Common times to use the command Leave It:
- Food on the table or dropped on the floor
- Medication that drops on the ground when struggling to open the child-proof container
- When the cat walks into the living room
- When the old dog has had enough of the puppy (you command the puppy to Leave It)
- When other dogs walk by out in public and your dog starts to lunge towards them to play
- When folding laundry and your dog wants to “help”
- When you’re watering the garden, and your dog reaches for the hose (also to “help”)
- When your dog wants to play with your child’s toy too
- When your dog lunges for the geese at Stan State
