As GiGi’s students completed their state testing on Heatwaves, A+ Dog Training would like to share information on heat strokes that we received at the Patterson Pet Awareness Expo.  Do you remember how miserable the heat was in Modesto last year? Let’s educate the dog community and keep all of our beloved pets safe!

Several signs will show from a dog suffering from a heatstroke.  Here are only a few:

  • Rapid panting
  • Thick, sticky saliva
  • Weakness
  • Diarrhea
  • Red or pale gums

As the weather gets warmer, prevention is the key:

  • Provide fresh water at all times
  • DO NOT leave your pet in a parked car even if the car is under shade and has the windows open
  • Feel the ground (pavement, sand) with the back of your hand. If it’s hot for your hand, it’s hot for your dog’s paws.
  • Remember that your walking and jogging regiment with your dog during the spring will change as the weather gets hotter. Exercise when it is cooler and workout less if you need to.
